1. RefNinja - DOI
RefNinja™ allows you to generate citations for a given DOI or a list of DOIs (each entered on a new line). You can select from various citation formats, including
APA, APA 7,
MLA, Vancouver,
IEEE, Harvard,
bibitem, RIS
and BibTeX.
Supported citation formats:
-
APA:
The American Psychological Association format is commonly used in the social sciences. It includes the author's last name, initials, year of publication in parentheses, title in sentence case (only the first word and proper nouns capitalized), and publication details (e.g., journal name in italics, volume in italics, issue in parentheses, and page range). The DOI is included as a URL if available.
Example:
Smith, J. (2020). The title of the paper. Journal Name, 10(2), 123–145. DOI: https://doi.org/10.1234/example.
-
APA 7:
The 7th edition of the APA format introduces stricter rules for author listings, where up to 20 authors are listed before using 'et al.' for more. It also emphasizes the inclusion of DOIs as URLs and provides guidelines for handling online sources and e-books. The overall structure remains similar to the APA format.
Example:
Smith, J., Doe, A., Johnson, R., & Lee, M. (2020). The title of the paper. Journal Name, 10(2), 123–145. DOI: https://doi.org/10.1234/example.
-
MLA:
The Modern Language Association format is widely used in the humanities, particularly in literature and cultural studies. It lists the author's last name followed by their first name, the title of the work in quotation marks, and the name of the journal or book in italics. Volume and issue numbers are included, as well as the publication year and page range. The DOI is typically not hyperlinked but listed at the end.
Example:
Smith, John. 'The Title of the Paper.' Journal Name, vol. 10, no. 2, 2020, pp. 123–145. https://doi.org/10.1234/example.
-
Vancouver:
A numerical citation style commonly used in medical and scientific publications. References are numbered in the order they appear in the text and include the author’s last name and initials, title in sentence case, and publication details. The journal name is italicized, and the DOI is usually prefixed with 'doi:'.
Example:
Smith J, Doe A. The title of the paper. Journal Name. 2020;10(2):123–145. doi: 10.1234/example.
-
IEEE:
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers format is widely used for technical and engineering publications. It includes author initials followed by last name, the title in quotation marks, journal name in italics, volume, page range, year, and the DOI. For more than six authors, the first six are listed followed by 'et al.'.
Example:
J. Smith, A. Doe, and R. Brown, 'The Title of the Paper,' Journal Name, vol. 10, pp. 123–145, 2020. DOI: 10.1234/example.
-
Harvard:
A style commonly used in academic publications across multiple disciplines. It lists the author's last name, initial(s), year in parentheses, title in single quotes, and publication details. Journal names and book titles are italicized.
Example:
Smith, J. and Doe, J. (2020). 'The title of the paper', Journal Name, vol. 10, no. 2, pp. 123–145. DOI: 10.1234/example.
-
BibTeX:
A format used for bibliographies in LaTeX documents. It includes a structured entry with fields such as author, title, journal, year, volume, and DOI. It is widely used in technical and academic publications.
Example:
@article{smith2020,
author = {Smith, John and Doe, Jane},
title = {The Title of the Paper},
journal = {Journal Name},
year = {2020},
volume = {10},
number = {2},
pages = {123--145},
doi = {10.1234/example}
}
-
RIS:
A standardized tag-based format used for bibliographic software like EndNote and RefWorks. Each tag represents a specific field, such as title, author, or year.
Example:
TY - JOUR
AU - Smith, John
AU - Doe, Jane
TI - The Title of the Paper
JO - Journal Name
VL - 10
IS - 2
SP - 123
EP - 145
PY - 2020
DO - 10.1234/example

\bibitem:
A format used in LaTeX documents for bibliographic references when using the bibliography environment without BibTeX. Each entry starts with a `\bibitem` command.
Example:
\bibitem{smith2020}
Smith, J. and Doe, J., The Title of the Paper, \textit{Journal Name}, vol. 10, no. 2, pp. 123--145, 2020. DOI: 10.1234/example.
